I've owned quite a few pocketable digicams over the years, in addition to the DSLRs, but IMO the G15 is truly the first model possessing significant refinements that makes it stand out above all others in it's catagory.
Agreed. You could use a dSLR inside with a 50mm fast lens, but you'd need to go to even higher ISO's in order to stop down and get decent DOF whereas the G15 and it's shorter focal lengths provide good DOF even at f/1.8 or f/2.8. Shallow DOF is good in certain situations, but not enough DOF can make a photo get put in the trash bin.
