If Fuji has a much better solution in the wings, then the once-every-five-years buyers, to say nothing of the once-every-decade buyers, may be wise to hold off buying until the next model.

And why should you buy the next model? There might be better solutions in the wings even then. If a company is bringing out new models every six months you could never buy anything from it, according to such a logic.

I answer that argument here:

I am happy to accept a range of limitations. I accept, for example, that Fuji's video is inferior to that of the competition and is presumably inferior to what Fuji will provide in later models.

However, the greatest strength of the Fuji is its low-light image quality. That is why I am interested in it rather than, say, the Olympus OMD. Thus the low-light autofocus ability is, for me, quite central to the camera's attraction.

It is one thing to hold off buying in order to avail yourself of an already developed and hence certain solution to a major problem. It is quite a different thing to hold off buying merely because the next model is likely to be better in some way or other.

Of course, all this assumes that the X100s really is a lot better in low light. We don't know that for sure yet; it might only be better in good light. In that case, I'll probably go ahead and buy the X-E1.
