In any case in the menu it is set at default 51 but on the camera switch it is moved to 9 and pretty much always stays there. Yuriy, for the shots like the two guys in front of a Christmas Tree 9 points AF is no good. It is better to have AF-C with "Single-Point AF" mode. D800 manual, pages 94 and 95 provide info on how to set it up.

Its even better to use AF-s with "single point AF" since AF-S holds the value with half pressed

shutter button while you recompose.....

hasselblad goes even further and compensates the shift when you recompose and its system is called Truefocus.......!

Its the only way to get precisely focused images with 60 MP sensors without AA filter next to manual....
