You can browse as long as you want without having a sales guy checking "are you alright sir?".
You do realise it was our job to ask if you were okay, right? Whilst it may have irritated you to ask, provided you were polite and said something along the lines of "I'm just browsing, but if I need any assistance I'll ask", then everything would've been fine. My major bugbear was people who came in and then got shirty when approached.
