I really like my 16-35 mk II on the 5D2. The 85 and 135 are excellent lenses. I like primes (I have a 501.2, 100/2.0, 200/2.8) to cover the normal to medium telephoto range.

For a walk around lens, I have been very happy with the 24-105L IS. Very high keeper rate for me. I think your plan to a a UWA (16-35) is good. The 40 is low cost and light weight, so if it works for you, I'd say keep if for now. Add the UWA, and if you find that the 40 isn't being used after a few months, put it up for sale at Fred Miranda, CL or eBay.
