Do remember that a fellow american contacted Nikon, asking them if the warranty would if he cleaned it himself. The answer was 'YES'. This is consistent with the text in the manual. Although I understand that many will simply ignore this Nikon statement and consider cleaning the sensor themselves as not causing problems with the warranty, we should not ignore the fact that Nikon offers to 'solve' issues byhaving it repaired or cleaned at a Nikon repair center. Moreover, they do not charge you for this.

My camera has a standard two year warranty. I'm not going to wait for a fith of the life cycle of this camera before I can use it without in idiot high frequency of cleaning. Apart from the costs the cleaning causes, the fact that Nikon has admitted they have a solution (personal mail) in the Dusseldorf service center tells us there is a real problem. So I will claim my rights based on the warranty I have.

Yes it is great that Nikon will clean the camera for free, but when I shipped it to them this week it cost close to $45 in shipping+insurance charges, and I am without my camera for multiple weeks. I am pretty unhappy without my camera at my side for weeks.  In the future I will clean it myself.

If Nikon had even decent customer service, it would make things easier. They are slow to respond to emails and do not communicate clearly.
