You are nosy. You are taking photos of them. You're not papp - papp don't care, they have skin as thick as elephant hide and earn their income that way.

How you feel about yourself is sensed by your human targets. If you don't feel confident and don't feel you are harming anyone and have just the littlest doubt and insecurity, your target can sense that.

Some places are easier to shoot than others. In various areas of the cities and various cities people with cameras shooting each other are so common that everyone is used to camera attention. I laugh at in Melbourne near Flinders Street Station, you can count 1 camera per 5 people most of the time.

Go for some workshops or street photography communities companionship (via Facebook, Google+). Eric Kim for example travels the world running workshops for newbies on this.
