In my experience Nikon is a tough cookie when it comes to customer service. You cannot be as soft as your lens. Hang tough without being nasty. At least Nikon did not claim impact damage. After this, if you trust yourself as the final judge of your gear and your photos, you will be ahead of the game.

Thanks. Re. trusting myself - I suppose so. I kept thinking "if I can do it with the old manual lens, why can't I do it with the new ones?". But, I know the autofocus system of the D7000 is complex, and I haven't done 'serious' photography in years. Well as they say, live and learn. I guess I did.
