Who makes the Sensor...

This isn't a question, and its not a claim. But...

I haven't seen anyone here mention the fact that it seems Chipworks have done a teardown of the new nikon D5200 camera, that pretty much everyone assumed had the 24MP sony sensor.

It turns out its ...... made by Toshiba!

While DXO haven't tested it yet, the comparison pics coming out seem to indicate its at least on par with the Sony rival (which one would expect if Nikon have chosen it).

So it is looking as if other manufacturers have the technology and production facilities to produce a sensor that can rival a Sony one. It was after all highly likely it would only be a matter of time.

Are we really so confident that the GH3 sensor MUST be a Sony one? (hell ... we still haven't seen a teardown that proves the EM5 uses a Sony, although its fairly probable)

Are we also so confident that Panasonic themselves are so far behind? I do recall a senior Panny executive stating a year or two back that there were some very exciting developments that were in the pipeline in terms of new sensor design. Often one manufacturer takes a lead, but often its only a matter of time before the others catch up and sometimes overtake.
