i guess now i am beginning to understand that an expensive $350+ calibrator should perform something better than going by my eye.

The $150 Spyder4 Pro or $150 Colormunki Display will be do an excellent job on the monitor. And, if you're like many people who don't change papers or inks often, you can buy custom paper profiles for a moderate fee.

If you're running dual monitors then you'd probably want the more advanced Spyder4 Elite or i1 Display Pro.

It sounds to me like many of you that use this tool ARE in some sort of business or something, or do some of you have this calibrator just for fun??

Nope, just a hobbyist who got tired of the time wasted trying to get his monitor "right" by eye and realized that he'd spent nearly half the value of a colorimeter on papers and inks in the process. It was such a supreme p*ss off the first time I used the kit and realized how I'd been wasting time & $$.

You guys are the experienced ones with a calibrator, so i will definitely get one now. Now, my next question is would this $150 dollar SPYDER4 PRO work on my newly Samsung LED TV??? I actually happen to have $150 cash right now

Previously i have been told that i have to get the $300 dollar one or something, i can't recall why, but i was told this less expensive ones won't work. Can you confirm this please? Which one would be THE BEST for $150 dollars?

.

The Spyder4 Pro's puck is usable with a couple of open source applications for HDTV calibration.  I have not had a chance to look at these links to see if they still work, been a while.
