To make this discussion a bit more helpful for the thread opener:

On what kind of paper would you like to print? Mat or glossy surface?

=> In case you prefer glossy, dye ink can be the better choice (much deeper black)

Would you also like to print smaller formats like 6x4 inch?

=> if yes, you might consider a 6-ink-system. The ink drops are smaller than on a 4-ink epson which gives a better resolution. This is visible with pure eyes even on a 4-black-level-inkset.

BTW: People report getting color casts from their Epson 1400 or 1430 do use the wrong settings. You can get perfect large size bw-prints from it using the single black in method. If not, spend more time with it
