Which Reversed Lenses/Filters work well together?

Sorry about the long post here!

I have a Nikon D7000, Nikon 50mm f/1.8d (new addition for me!), Nikon 16-85mm VR, Tamron 70-300 VC, and a Raynox DCR-150.

In the past I've used the Panasonic FZ150 with the Raynox and the D7000 with the Tamron 70-300 and the Raynox.

Now that I have the 50mm prime, I'm wondering about trying reverse mounting for macro, but have some questions/concerns.

1. If I mount the 50mm reversed to the D7000, what does the camera think is going on?  Does it just shoot manually?  Does the aperture control on the camera mean anything then (I can control the lens aperture on the lens itself I guess?)

2.  Would it make more sense to mount the 50mm reversed on the 70-300?

3.  Can I also use the Raynox on top of either of those setups? What happens to the working distance in that kind of situation?

4. Can you put a filter on the "naked" end of the reversed lens to protect it?

I would like to have the best combo of working distance (ie, more of it since I shoot live insects), depth-of-field, and magnification.  But I have no idea how to calculate what those variables will be with the various setups.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

P.S.

Here's some of my Panny/Raynox macros, I would like this kind of magnification or higher with the D7000:

But being able to also zoom out like this would be nice:
