I'm hoping DSLR lenses shift more towards what compact cameras do now. Lenses should be designed for extreme sharpness first, across the entire frame.

Prioritize the following:
Sharpness/Resolution
Aperture
Flare Reduction

At the cost of:
Distortion
Light Fall Off/Vignetting
Aberrations

Digitally, the "cons" are relatively easy to fix. Especially distortion. Casio and many camera makers have been using distortion heavy lens designs to save on space/make the camera thinner. At the end of the day, if the camera can output a satisfactory image, who cares.

I also agree with high ISO negating some of the need for faster lenses.
