u said it yourself, the lense and sensor may not be as good.

in any event, these aren't the same type of cameras at all.  the same statement can apply to just about any camera nowadays. they all take good photos.

different ppl value dofferent things. do ppl pay much more for slightly better iq? yes they do. do audiophiles pay tens of thousans for an extra 1% increase in sound quality? yes they do.

the rx1 is a niche camera. the pricing says so. random joe with a camera couldn't tell the difference any way so cost is always going to be a big factor for them. had the rx1 been marketed as a consumer point and shoot, they would have real problems selling. instead, sony has made it clear this is for a very niche market with very specific requirements.

i highly doubt the rx1 will ever sell as many as the x100s or whatever else, but that was never the plan. when you make a niche product, you expect low volumes usually for higher prices.

would the fuji produce very nearly as good photos? most likely. so do many other cameras for 1/2 the price. and yet, the niche product will sell to their niche despite it.

besides that, for large corporations like sony, the sometimes release niche products as a prelude to something in the near future that will be more general market. it's an accepted now that the rx1 is their technology preview for the nex 8 ff mirrorless. but by then, ppl will still say, why not just buy a m4/3 for 1/2 the price of the ff nex?

and yet, i suspect, the ff nex's are going to sell very well.
