Retail Week report Jessops going into administration.

Very sad if Jessops eventually go down the pan.

I can't say I go in there very often, but each time I have visited my local store (Southend) the staff have always been extremely helpful, polite and informative. I can't speak for any other Jessops store though.

I think a lot of people are put off by Jessops as they expect their staff to know absolutely everything about camera, lens & accessory XXXXX, which I guess is impossible with the amount of products they sell.

I know it's stating the obvious, but as if with Comet, Jessops is losing out to the internet. Having said that, there are some good deals in store and on their website. On the other hand, some items are ridiculously overpriced and this current climate is hard for nearly everyone; the vast majority will choose to instead buy on-line from a reputable retailer, rather than pay more to get the same item on the same day from the high street.

I don't know much about their business structure and ethics, I wonder if something should have been done much earlier or if this was something that was always going to be inevitable in the current economic climate?

I feel so sorry for all the hard-working staff (both on the shop floor & behind the scenes) that strive to provide a quality service, I honestly hope that Jessops does not cease in the same way that Comet did, but big changes need to be made in areas.
