Right. But you're failing to address a point here. While Nikon has that flexibility, Sony makes it's own sensors. So why would Sony need to have that flexibility? It defeats the purpose and point of making your own sensors, which leads to my next point. Sony has that option too. The difference here is, Nikon doesn't have the flexibility to make their own sensors like Sony or like Canon. If this were the case, all of their cameras would have a Nikon sensor. Nikon's "flexibility" more than likely has more to do with price than luxury.

Canon's market sensor share. If you're talking about solely on a Sony vs Canon cameras. Yes. But overall sensor market share. No. Sony has several companies that use their sensors.

Maybe their was a lot of finger pointing on the D600 dust issue?

Or Perhaps Sony wasnt happy with Nikons aggressive pricing strategy. So they may have pulled in the reigns due to it. The D800 is an absolute steal, compared to previous FF Nikons. The D600 was priced well at $2000, and was crazy cheap at $2000, with a Mic, SD card, 24-85mm lens... etc.

That leads me to my next point, how much was Sony selling the FF sensor for, if Nikon could sell their D600 for so cheap.

That's speculation. I'd state that the dust issue is a camera design issue. How much was Sony selling for? Possibly a low price per masses which put both in the position to do this. I'm sure that Nikon and Sony make a lot of bargain deals. You won't be in business if you don't.

I still think that their latest camera sensor is a price issue. Nikon more than likely base their decisions based each body. If Sony for example won't give them a deal on the sensors where they feel that the product is marketable, Nikon's not going to buy from them. You look elsewhere or play the numbers game with the competition by asking and showing what the competition from the other side is asking and they give you a lower price.

Its all speculation. My only point is that the decision may not have been Nikon's alone, or the issue may not just be price.

Just because the Sensor dust issue is "Probably" a camera design issue.... that doesnt mean that Nikon isnt blaming the Sony Sensor. If I had a dollar for the number of times I have been blamed for issues, that were not mine.... I would be a thousandaire.

Yes. But again, that's a major assumption. It's not uncommon for camera companies to use more than one sensor from different companies. This may just be that and nothing really complex where there is no obligation or contract to buy from just one company. It might just simply be a price/numbers issue.
