Pretty hard times for alpha users imho.

More accurately: Hard times perhaps for people hooked on periodic rumors.

Almost makes you wonder about sony's commitment to DSLT.

Nobody should wonder about that. 'DSLT' will be eliminated as soon as on-sensor contrast detect AF can work as fast as phase-detect AF. Even then, that does not imply the elimination of 'A-mount'.

I'd add to this

DSLT will be eliminated as soon as on-sensor phase detect AF is as fast as off-sensor phase detect AF. Judging by the interim progress made for the 99, this will arrive soon enough, possibly at the end of this year with the possible launch of a FF NEX.

But in this case, it's also possible that most legacy alpha lenses will not be AF-compatible with the system, requiring FF users to buy into a new set of nex lenses.

This crossed my mind a week ago. Someone made an interesting observation which lead me into thinking that Sony's goal is to move away from the A mount and use the NEX mount. The observation, when the NEX cameras first hit the market, they were very small. If you'll noticed, the cameras are bigger. I'm wagering that the NEX cameras will get bigger and the NEX mount size will too, the size of the A-mount.

Remember, Minolta got rid of their old mount for the A-mount.
