To me, the real problem with this lens is the Euro price: 550 euro vs $500 is ridiculous.

In the end, the olympus lens is not that more expensive than the pana 20mm, if you think the pana is a 3 year old lens, and if you compare them in $: you get silent and fast focusing, distance scale, and (more imporant) 34mm vs 40mm fov. In € the difference is too much.

Really hope the price will go down... the pana 25mm is too tight for me...

Well this isn't a fair comparison because in the EU, prices are always indicated with VAT included, while the sale taxes aren't included in the US prices (they depends upon the state where you buy it). The Chang right now is rather favoring the Euro (at about 1.3$ for 1€), but in your price the VAT amount to about 20%, so the difference is less striking.

You're right, I didn't factor in VAT; but still:

€, with VAT: €550

$, with 20% taxes: 600$, or €460. We're talking about 16% difference... it's not a lot, but still...

What I don't understand is that other lenses don't have this "problem".

Example, 45 1.8: $400, no taxes, in USA; €250 with taxes in Italy... weird

(but we're going off topic here...)

I think that the 45mm price is rather an exception in the US : never heard Americans complaining about the price of the 45mm ? It is about the only lens which was costing more in he US than here. But uses, it seems that Olympus is going the same road as Panasonic and setting lower prices in the US too now.
