Porteau Cove w/ Hoya ND400
Jan 8, 2013

Inspired by the photography of Michael Levin, I've been playing with long exposures and recently picked up the Hoya ND400, a nine-stop ND filter.  It's a bit of a pain to use - LV only, you can't see squat through the viewfinder; the filter gets dirty really easily and is hard to clean, and it has an annoying tendency to lock to my step-up rings - but the results are fantastic.  No problem here getting a 20 second exposure at f/8

Porteau Cove, BC

I like using the ND400 with the K-01 over the K-5, the K-01's Live View handles the dark filter much better and the focus is much easier, but in this case it was raining.

Check out this excellent short film of Levin at work, he's a master of this style:

Thanks for looking!
