As mentioned you can cover the A77 flash with a filter or some exposed negative film to reduce the effect. All A-mount APS-C bodies can trigger an unlimited amount of flashes on the same channel, no limitations.

IIRC, the f20 only works as a trigger on the A900 and A99, the A77 can use the f43/56/58/60 or Metz 58 as a master to trigger other slaves (with ratio control in some cases) instead of the pop-up.
