Maybe the "walk-around" lens we've been looking for?

Sigma have just announced a 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM lens, for around $400. Apart from the price, it sounds great - a good range on the crop bodies, reasonably fast, with close focusing and OS/IS. However, the price makes me think that the quality won't be there - now if someone could just make a similar lens with good optical quality I'm sure that many of use would be interested. (I have the 17-55 f2.8, which I wish went a little longer, and the 15-85 is a little slow.)
