100-400L cleaning with a vacumcleaner

Hi all,
In the recent trip to Costa Rica I dropped my 100-400L in the sand when was changing lenses. Cleaned with a brash, blow with air and was c continue shooting. When I came back home, I noticed quiet noticeable dust inside at 100 range, just looking through the lens in bright light.
Tried vacuum cleaner from mounting side, but much luck.
Some time ago I read on this forum that some people had success and do this often.
May be I'm doing something wrong, what is exact procedure?
