I got a free Nikon 24-85mm lens ! (D600 cashback)

Here's the story : I purchased the Nikon D600 (body only) when it came out for the price of 2099$ CAD. a few days later, the camera price went down at 1999$, and my local seller price matched the camera. Finally, just after the 30 days price match policy, all Canadian stores offered the Nikon D600 and 24-85mm combo for 1999$ CAD instead of 2500$ CAD.
I asked my local dealer My local dealer why Nikon decided to dump the price so heavily and he concurred that this was an unusual discount : usually, cameras will only loose a small value for holiday sales but not a 600-700$ price difference (with tax), especially when it was just released 1 month before. Sigma is the only camera maker who recently heavily dumped the price of the SD1 by renaming it SD1 Merrill and automatically offered a compensation in Sigma products for the first buyers. Nikon did not offer any cash-back for such a price dump and should.
So after this brief talk, my local dealer (who knows me well), contacted Nikon to discuss about the matter. A week later, my store offered me the 24-85mm lens for free to match the combo price. I am very thankful to them, and would advice anyone to buy locally and stick to one store. This will help bind bonds over the simple buy&sell activity and be profitable to both parties.
Happy new year to all !
