920K dot LCD and EVF, good if not stellar.

Same EVF as HS20 which has been roundly criticised.

On paper at least the HS50 looks like being the leading contender to replace my HS20.

Will IQ be close? That matters as well. It won't have droop so that is an advantage.

Actually I've always thought the HS20 if shot well could pretty much match the XS-1, its in the higher ISO range that things differ more so.

Apologies if my lack of photographic knowledge is catching.

Nope, according to Fuji's product spec sheet they both are 920k dot.

FYI: So we are clear I was criticising the EVF of the HS50 as it is the same as previous models ( I said HS20 but meant HS30 - my mistake) and neither are the same as the XS1.

From fuji spec sheets.

EVF

HS50: 0.26-inch., approx. 920K-dot, color LCD viewfinder approx. 100% coverage

XS1 .47-inch, approx. 1440,000 dots, TFT color LCD monitor, Approx. 100% coverage, Diopter adjustment : -5 - +3 m-1(dpt)
