ME-60 plain matte focusing screen

Anybody using Pentax ME-60 plain matte focusing screen? Does that help to manual focus over the standard focus screen coming with K5?
Pre-digital the only lenses I ever used were manual lenses on manual bodies (including the original Nikon F and Pentax K1000) Although the focus screen had center microprism I used to just look at the overall image on the matte screen and quickly focus. Checking my slides from those dark ages they are in sharp focus.
With K5's standard focus screen I cannot manually focus accurately at all and was wondering if the plain matte screen can help.
I know about the Katzeye screens, but since I never used the microprism area in the past I was interested to know just about the Pentax plain matte version.
