The problem I see here is that the "pieces" are blurry until they're lined up so it's harder to align them.The reason they are blurry is that they are out of focus. That's what the process is doing, finding focus. Once focused they are not blurry.
Did you think a sharp image can be displayed prior to focusing? Think about it.
