P7700 Lens Hood & Filter?

Hi All,

Tried a 40.5mm B&W rubber lens hood on the P7700.  A little vignetting with the hood fully extended at 28mm, but if I push the rubber hood in I get no vignetting.  Fully extended there's no vignetting from about 35mm on out.  What's nice is that the lens cap still fits even with the hood attached.

But...

When the hood is attached I get a shadow off to the right when using the pop-up flash.

Any one else notice shadows when using a hood and the flash?  I don't use the flash that much but still...

Also, I find the lens exhibits some strong lens flare under certain conditions.  Anybody have any luck with a filter that might lessen lens flare on this camera?
