You mean absolute sharpness or relative sharpness? I got an f1.8 that shot as sharp in the corners as a (bad) zoom at f8.

If I wanted to work principally at max aperture I could have a noct-nikkor for $$$$

Manufacturers currently seem to be optimising the new G range or Sigmas to perform as best as possible wide open, but give ground on geometric distortion.
