The smaller the sensor - and the larger the relative depth of field is* - the easier, and therefore quicker, it is to focus. Look at the Nikon V1, which has famously good AF. So it's harder for the larger-sensored NEXs and Fuji Xs with their significantly larger sensors (and, in Fuji's case, with their very bright, shallow DoF lenses).
