85/1.8 is hardly "drab"

The 85/1.2L is a very fine lens, but ignoring the small DoF difference then apart from the very small difference in contrast and sharpness (which you could easily fix in PP) then I seriously doubt many folks here could see any difference in a web-sized photo taken with the 85/1.8 and 85/1.2 under similar controlled conditions as the OP's.
