Randy bought up a good point today, comparing his X-Pro1 to his MF Blad.

MF (Film) has long been the quality end of the pro/prosumer market, with cameras shooting 6x5, 6x7, and full frame 6x9 images.

Modern digital MF isn't really MF at all, it's just larger than 35mm frame size - if its real-estate you're after, then real MF film is still way ahead in potential pixel count.

How about TWICE as large as 35mm - even the H3DII-39 with a sensor size of 49x36.7mm is twice the physical dimension of an FX DSLR sensor. The latest H4D-60 is getting very close to MF film at 53.7x40.2mm. Remember that the MF film had to leave an area at the edge for the neg holder and frame count such that 6x6cm was really only 56x56mm and then to print at 4:3 was reduced to 56x42mm.

Modern FX digital in my experience is as good or better than MF film and MF digital is very close to 4x5" film
