Does the 7D Refocus Every Frame in an 8fps Burst?

Hi JohnJ, ONE SHOT is the name of an autofocus mode, not a drive mode. In the ONE SHOT autofocus mode, the camera will not refocus again until you ask it to. We've been talking about two ways to ask the camera to refocus, either with a half-press of the shutter release, or with the AF-ON button if you prefer back-button focussing. Either way, a burst will not be interrupted to refocus in ONE SHOT mode until you do one of those things. And that burst can be plenty long, so if you keep the shutter button held down for a long time, you can take many many pictures at the autofocus setting that was established at the beginning of the burst.

On the other hand, the drive modes include Single Shooting (one square on the LCS screen), High-speed continuous shooting (the 8 fps burst, indicated by three squares and an "H" on the LCD screen), and Low-speed continuous shooting (three squares without the "H" on the LCD screen).

The point is that it's possible to have an 8 fps burst set in the drive mode, while having ONE SHOT set as your autofocus mode.

Or in summary, "ONE SHOT" is an autofocus mode, while "Single shooting" is a drive mode.
