If the X-E1 manual is like the X-Pro1 manual, several pages are devoted to proper focusing technique. Coincidentally, it is exactly the technique I have been using with digital cameras for more than a dozen years. Learn it and all the problems go away.
I was surprised when i found i can't get focus of a kid decorating Christmas tree (She did not move very fast..) The other cameras around me including cell phone could get clear photo while i had to use the dslr eventually.
Again learn the camera. If you try to shoot it as a dSLR, it will fight you ever step of the way. If you can't get results, I shudder to think what your situation would have been back when there was only manual focusing. Obviously you would have been totally helpless.
Absolute nonsense. Back in the manual focus era lenses were designed for manual focus as were the split prisms. Manual focus was EASY back then. Much easier than today when almost all compromises are made in the direction towards autofocus.
