I got a D600 for Christmas. I also have a D200, and before that a D1X.

I got used to dust with the previous bodies. You get dust, you blow it off, you keep shooting. Eventually you get stubborn dust that a blower won't remove, so you get some eclipse fluid and sensor swabs and do a wet cleaning. Problem solved. Then later you get more dust, and the cycle begins again.

It seems to me that dust on the sensor is natural and unavoidable with a DSLR. Any time you have a mirror box that's exposed to outside air, it's going to get dust. Zoom lenses act like bellows, pumping air in and out, so you don't even need to take the lens off to get dust.

From where I sit, this seems like a tempest in a teapot. Is the D600 really demonstrably worse than other DSLRs with dust? And is there a confirmed, documented oil issue, or is that internet hysteria? Seems a lot like the latter to me.

After reading all the horror stories I did an out-of-focus test shot of my gray card at f/22, and sure enough I've got dust. I have yet to see that dust in normal shooting however.

Yes, there is likely a problem. It is possible or even likely that the sensor contamination comes about internally from other parts within the camera, like oil or tiny specs of plastic shavings or the like.

But it's not like you have a camera that doesn't work. All it takes to fix this problem is to clean your sensor. If you can clean your sensor once, then you can clean it any number times it is required. So what if you have to do it daily? Should not be a big deal.

Many people who come here to complain really make this a huge, issue where it should not be. They often say "I should not have to clean it so often" or "For my money I want something that is not defective" or "I want Nikon to srand behind their product and make a public statement" or "Nikon QC is terrible". You have a problem? You are not alone. Don't panic, be cool and deal with it. Nikon and their retailers will help you sort out the problem with your camera, but not with your attitude.

Yes, write to Nikon about it, but clean your sensor, enjoy using your camera and be done with it.

If you say "having to clean my sensor is stopping me from being able to enjoy my camera", then your problem is not your camera, but your state of mind. Change it and be happy. Nikon cannot help you with that.

Good luck.
