Looks as though DPReview was overwhelemed by the Oly OMD mania

A bit like Apple iPad mania -- Apple talks a huge game but the fact is that Samsung (for example) was technically months ahead of them on the last release and is probably /still/ ahead.

I would agree that the OMD was revolutionary -- for Olympus -- rather than the G5 being evolutionary for Panasonic -- but we need to take the "for Olympus" qualification int account. The fact is that Olympus was lagging in the field by not having a built-in EVF camera while Panasonic had two excellent performers.

The G5 and GH3 have suffered from a lack of hype!

And even then Oly managed a step backwards by not including built-in flash and by going for form over function and so not making the camera thick enough for a decent grip.

I'm an owner of an E-PL3 and love the little cam to death; it’s quirkiness has its own appeal. But I'm finally getting sick of quirkiness and thinking Oly should do a better job of designing cameras that work better. People say Oly would have to increase the size of the body to include a built-in flash.

Well, so what? The body ks artificially narrow now -- it has to have a spacer on the front to mount the lens! Ridiculous! And the moment you mount a lens you make the body thickness academic.

The E-PL5 looks very nice as a next step, but the G5 is looking better by the day -- and the sample pix I see where tests have been made against the OMD suggest Panny color quality is nudging Oly color at last.

Cheers, geoff
