A57 aperture setting in video mode

Can you put a f1.8 prime lense onto the A57 and setting the aperture to f1.8 and still use the auto focus?

looking to purchase a camera in the next week or two, and I have torn between the A57 and canon 600/650d

canon seem to have lower noise at > 1600 iso
