Canon 85mm f 1.8 USM

Yes it is. Easily Canons best Non L prime also. You can really blow the background out and it focuses extremely fast. The 85 1.8 is one of Canons fastest focusing lenses by the way.

Also I wouldn't consider IS if you're photographing people. You will want a shutter speed of at least 1/100-1/125 minimum to freeze subject motion anyways.

IS will mainly only be useful when shooting people when using a focal length longer than 135mm (or FF equiv.) (another one of Canons primes).
