D800 Analog Iso Steps (100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, etc)

Hi,

I've come across multiple times on dpreview forums that it's better to use the iso analog steps instead of using in-between iso steps that depend on digital amplification. Does that mean that iso 1600 on the D800 actually performs better than iso 1000 or iso 1250? Does this translate into actual image quality difference?
