Slight correction: It isn't the coatings that were hot in the old radioactive lenses, it is the optical glass itself---usually one, but sometimes more that one of the elements. As you have stated, many have claimed that exposure to UV/sunlight reverses the yellowing.

If that is the case, how do you ensure that you are getting a non radioactive lens? The Minolta is at the top of my hit list...
