I'm glad that many are interested and appreciating this thread.

Yes, DPP is Digital Photo Professional, the software delivered by Canon together with its cameras capable of shooting in RAW format (for compact models: only high-level ones).

Together with the software, you can have -or download- the pdf manual for your version.

On YouTube you can also find many tutorial teaching its basics.

I don't know about the jpg conversion engine of the SX50 - I agree: for sure its jpg I've seen around in the internet are quite IMPRESSIVE, but even those satisfied with them could try to enter the world of raw: it's so interesting
