Sharp enough to use, yes - too many with poor framing and not worth taking in the first place, though. Forgot to mention I was shooting with the 70-300 L - it's a bit short at times, but the AF is a fair bit better than my alternative 100-400.

I considered the 100-400 but glad i went for the 70-300 L IS USM instead although sometimes whish i had both ends more and less only have the one quality lens. The 28-105 looks good apart from price at £800 odd smaker roonies.

I had the 100-400L for more than 12 years.

I sold my 100-400L and replaced it with the 70-300L.  I found that the 70-300 has much better autofocus, much better stabilization and much better optics.  Yes, there are the occasional times that I wish I had a longer focal length, but a using a crop body in those situations will solve the problem.
