For the sake of everything that is, was, will be, or might be sacred, don't run Linux under Windows in VMWare or other virtual machine. You will have worst of both worlds.

The easiest way is to add another hard drive, and use it exclusively for Linux, while original hard drive will be used for Windows and a bootloader in MBR (so OS can be chosen on boot).
