Another aspect to consider is that noise in a low light higher ISO situation depends on the area of the sensor, and cropping is effectively reducing your sensor size, hence increasing the noise in your image.

Your monitor is about 3.7 MP, so you can use that as a rough basis for computing your potential crop advantage - but don't forget to apply to the lower MP sensor as well, or you aren't comparing like noise (area) images.
