Good low light still and video camera

Sort of a basic question I guess and probably a lot of opinion variations. But since I have experience with only two cameras... anyone with experience will likely be able to give good input.
I am sort of disappointed in a Sony A65 I recently bought. I love the huge detailed beautiful stills, and that is mostly what I do but it seems to really suck on the video end unless there is good light. Even very good light seems to be required...
Admittedly I am quite a rank novice so may get better performance as I get better at using the A65, but I really think the basic problem arises from the translucent mirror sucking up 1/3 of the light so low light situation hasn't much of a chance right off the bat. I'd love to hear that the translucent mirror is not any problem for low light shooting but suspect it actually is.
I do realize that any kind of professional efforts will make sure the light is adequate but I'm not a professional and in fact video is secondary in my hobby work... but still would like to be able to capture decent video in lowlight.
I have a sony VX2100 Video cam that is old school and low (720x480) resolution... But it works very well in really poor light.
So, I'd like to hear about dslr/slt still cameras (with video) that perform as well in low light operation as the old Sony VX2100
