The (slight) difference between the high ISO performance of the D4 and D800 sensors has less (if anything) to do with pixel size than the different technologies and design tradeoffs used in them - probably Aptina's DR pix etc. vs Exmor.

I find that comparing two sensors at high Iso for noise only is totally unfair... what about DR, color sensitivity, color accuracy, micro contrast ...etc? Why people (and reviewers) don't compare sensors at higher sensitivities as they do in lower ones? ...From this point of view D4's sensor and D800's sensor, simply can't compare at higher ISO... The detail and general scene info that D4 can provide at 6400 Iso is simply incomparable to the one of D800... noise is comparable, but obviously with a penalty to be paid in other factors.
