Just got an OM-D for Christmas. I got tired of waiting for the D400 and started looking at other things to update my aging D200.

Love the camera performance and the size. The IQ is superior to my D200, but not sure how it compares to D300. I carry the OM-D everywhere now and my D200 sits mostly at home. I may buy a D400 when (and if) it ever comes, but the OM-D does 95% of everything I could want (AF tracking is hit or miss, and flash system is not as powerful as my SB-800).

The OM-D with the Panasonic 12-35 (24-70 FF equiv) is probably an optimum choice for your stated needs (but expensive). The 12-50 is more versatile and cheaper, but less sharp. Both options are weather sealed.

I'm planning to take my OM-D to China in May and on a week-long backpacking trip in Colorado in June.  The size and weight are huge advantages for both trips.

If you start exploring micro 4/3s, you'll find a lot to like.
