I got the 12-50mm lens with the OMD as part of a kit. As part of the deal, I also got the 45mm m.zuiko. I have the original m.zuiko 14-42mm.

If you read all the reviews, you woud imagine that the 14-42mm m.zuiko is a very poor lens, as is the 12-50mm.

I find myself using the 12-50mm quite a lot, and it stays on the camera when I'm in walkabout mode. The macro function is also very useful. The 12-50mm to me is quite uncharacteristic for olympus - the lens is sharp, but not sharp like the 12-60mm. To me it produces very smooth photos, with very nice contrast and colour. I find the microcontrast and colour actually better than the 12-60mm. I always use the 12-50mm with lens hood.

I also have the 14-45mm, and this lens is definitely sharper, but I'm not sure that its better - 24mm on the wide end is a great benefit. The long end of the 12-50mm is the weakest part of the lens.

Overall I am very happy with the 12-50mm lens.

For potrait shots I use the 45mm, which is an amazing lens.
