Quick question for people using live view focus on D800 and/or D600

I am pretty new to the d800, but I have used the live view for getting reference shots while setting up  my af fine tune settings. I am not sure if mine is normal, but it focuses exactly in the middle with 1/2 on either side of the focus point gradually going out of focus. Regular focusing produces roughly about 1/3 in front and 2/3 behind the focus point. I know that is confusing, but hopefully you get my point. Not sure if that is a problem or not for your needs. For me it actually will be, and I will have to rely on manual focus while zoomed in to get the results I need. I really don"t think my d300 did it this way.
