Late 2009 13" MBP + Aperture 3 + External Monitor?

My 2009 C2D 13" MBP has 4GB RAM and runs Aperture 3 adequately (35K photo library). I'm looking at adding an external monitor either a 24" 1900x1200 or 27" 2560 x 1440. Any thoughts on whether Aperture 3 will run smoothly from my MBP say with a RAM expansion with either of these or am I'm kidding myself?
