Part of my Landscape Photography Best Shot Practices is to use the ultra crispy live view focus to absolutly NAIL the focus on my shots?

I have heard from more than one source that the D800 leaves a bit to be desired in the Live View focusing arena. Wondering if that is true

I have not heard much from the D600 users on this topic, and wondering if no news is good news on that front?

As I get closer to my potential purchase, this would be a deal killer for me if working that way was a fight as I rely on my stuff working and getting out of my way so I can focus on the landscape, not the camera.

Hi Roman,

When I use the Live View on my D800, I always use my old Agfa Lupe (from my darkroom days) to achieve the best focus possible.

For me, the trick is to step the live view down one or two "clicks" from 100% view and focus using the Lupe.  In my experience, this achieves a much better focus than relying on the Live View and my eyes alone.  I'm not sure if you would find using a focusing loupe problematic - given your desire to focus on the landscape and not the camera - but to my mind, the added effort is worth the outcome.

I'm very glad I kept the Agfa Lupe from the 70s; I kept it more for sentimental reasons than for practical ones and now happily put it to use

Best wishes,
